Presidents Day Tourney
The JSYHA is very pleased to announce the Inaugural Jacksonville Barracudas Presidents' Day Youth Hockey Tournament to be held at Jacksonville Ice and Sportsplex in February 2010. The tournament is scheduled for a 4-team Squirt Division and a 4-team Pee Wee Division.
A few of the interested programs expected to participate here in Jacksonville, Fl include the Kennesaw Jr. Thrashers (ATL), Columbia Cyclones (SC), Charlotte Flames (NC), Tampa Bay Jr. Lightning (FL), and the Florida Jr. Everblades.
The Cudas are also planning an evening of fun and games (both adult and kids) to be held at the Sportsplex for all local Barracuda families and our out of town guests on Saturday evening, February 13th.
Tournament coordinators are John DelVecchio and Jonathan Meyer. They will need plenty of volunteers to make this happen. A meeting will be held at 6:30 pm Thursday evening 12/17 at Jax Ice near the concession area to discuss the details. Please attend this meeting if you are interested in volunteering. If you cannot attend but would like to volunteer, please contact John DelVecchio at jddelvec@aol.com and Jonathan Meyer at jmeyer@priproductions.com

Spring Travel Hockey:
The Barracudas would like to continue full steam ahead and form travel teams at all age levels for the upcoming Spring/Summer 2010 season. Please keep the great sport of hockey in mind as you formulate your kids’ activity plans for the Spring. Historically, players will play at the age level that they would participate in for the upcoming Fall season. For example, a second year squirt for the current 2009-2010 Fall season would move up in Spring/Summer 2010 and play at the Pee Wee level which is the proper level for the upcoming 2010-2011 Fall season. Exceptions can be made based on skill level and physical maturity to leave a second year player at the current level for the Spring/Summer season if required. More info to follow as it becomes available…
2010–2011 Fall Travel Team Tryouts:
The Barracudas anticipate holding tryouts for the Fall 2010-2011 teams in the Spring of 2010. The tryouts are open to all players, both Travel and House. Level of play (A, AA etc.) within each age group will be determined by final rosters. Holding Fall tryouts in the Spring will allow the “new” teams plenty of time to coordinate team activities over the Spring and Summer to establish and continually improve the cohesiveness of the group. More to follow as dates are confirmed…
Barracuda Travel Hockey Needs Volunteers:
The Barracudas are currently looking for volunteers to assist with the following activities in 2010:
1. Tournament Coordinator – The Cudas are seeking an individual to assist with tournament coordination for the organization teams. Cuda teams currently attend tournaments in a wide variety of locations. The Tournament Coordinator would seek out tournaments for the teams and assist with the arrangements and details required to register the teams and ensure that accommodations are arranged.
2. Sponsorship Coordinator – The Cudas are seeking an individual to coordinate the process of obtaining sponsorships and serve as the point of contact between the organization and the sponsor to ensure the details of the sponsorship agreement are met.
3. Fundraising Coordinator – The Cudas are seeking an individual to coordinate program wide fundraising efforts once or twice a year to raise funds to offset individual hockey expenses and to support the hockey scholarship fund.
All of the duties described above are currently being performed by the team managers and members of the Board of Directors. Gaining volunteers for these duties will go far toward our effort to establish organizational continuity between all teams and to assist with the many tasks being performed by only a few. Ideally, the volunteer would come on board now and lay the ground work for the 2010 season as none of these positions have existed in the past and would require a set of operating procedures to be developed. Please email the Board of Directors at JacksonvilleTravelHockey@gmail.com if you are interested in volunteering for any of the positions described above.
